Adventures in Digital Painting...

And now for something completely different...

Once upon a time, back in art school, I was actually trying to be an oil painter. Though my love still remains with ink and brush, it is nice to know that I retained some of that knowledge. While I have been messing on and off with completely digital speed paints and sketches, I've never taken the full time I needed to complete a piece. In any case, this could be the start of...something. Not sure what, though.

This is where it started. I did this speed paint (erm...about 20 minutes) on Sunday night and decided to experiment...

The under painting. I decided to do this in blue, since I wanted the lights in the piece to be relatively warm.

The painting in progress

More in progress screen shots. I was roughly laying in color and refining as I went. At this point I was a little concerned that the lady in this picture was starting to look a little like the troll version of wonder woman :/

The final piece, with little touch ups. The scales were added to the dragon last.

Overall, I think this was a decent freshmen effort in digital painting. Maybe more to come? I definitely am interested in exploring it more...
